Committed to CT Young Democrats.
I joined the Connecticut Young Democrats when I moved here in 2002. I have been active at all levels of the organization. Most recently, I have helped the Manchester Young Democrats grow into a strong, politically active chapter. Connecticut is my home and I'm committed to creating an organization that will be influential in shaping a better state. | |
Outreach to Not-As-Young Democrats
We should create a stronger bond with older Democrats and our own former Young Democrats. In addition to e-mail and fundraising requests, we should send a yearly newsletter detailing our accomplishments. It should serve as an Annual Report listing our political contributions, issues forums, and chapter activities.
It would also be great to spotlight a “Young Democrat Alumni of the Year,” someone who grew up in our organization and has since made significant political advancement.
This newsletter should be sent to our target donors, legislative allies, and town chairs. It would serve as promotion for the group and a reminder that our volunteer services are available to groups that could use it.
A Night of Recognition
We need to promote our organization at a yearly dinner, better than we do now. Our big yearly fundraiser should be a night where we define our group to members and non-members. Currently, we fail to distinguish ourselves from other Democratic groups.
I would like to revamp the RFK Dinner format, or create another yearly fundraising dinner where we highlight and honor Young Democrats specifically. We need an event featuring Young Democrat keynote speakers, a chance to highlight our rising stars, and a forum to detail our policy goals and new ideas.
Increase our Social Side
All successful political movements include a strong social core. You can look our Young Democrat history in the 70’s and 80’s or the Founding Fathers during the Rebellion. Some of our greatest ideas come from conversations at the bar or at our Pig Roast. Increasing emphasis on social activities will foster interaction beyond meetings. It is crucial to keeping members involved and serves as another forum for ideas to come out in a different atmosphere. Young Democrats like to have fun and meet new people. Whether, it’s bowling, grilling out, mini golf, or hanging out at the Wood ‘n Tap, we need to extend our group beyond the meeting room. I believe we need to create a Social Chair to ensure that we get together beyond meetings.
